On the last day of my Animal Soul Connection retreat at Imiloa in Costa Rica, I organized an animal whale watching trip. My intention was for everyone in my group to intuitively connect with whales – specifically I had discussed meeting mother whales and their calves through all my marketing materials. To my amazement and surprise however, this didn’t happen!
My plan didn’t account for the fact that January in this part of Costa Rica doesn’t offer many whale sighting opportunities, as our guide warned us. Even without much prior whale-spotting experience myself, his warnings did not deter my dreams of encountering whales!
Once we were on board and settled down, I presented my method for connecting with whales – taking approximately 1 minute – and we were off!
Sarah (one of our wonderful attendees) made our initial sighting around five minutes into our meeting and announced, “Hey! Is That A Whale?” Though far off, something appeared to be spraying water, although further investigation revealed (to Sarah’s eye) it must have been some sort of boat moving across the water surface.
But it wasn’t! We had found our whales, and were going to connect. Our very impressed Guide and his crew hadn’t noticed this, so we quickly headed toward where we could spot one of these majestic mammals.
As we approached closer, it became apparent that we weren’t simply viewing one whale – there were multiple. At this point, our guide’s knowledge came in handy in helping identify what we were viewing.
We had discovered two male whales, as well as two families of whales (mother and calf), of which only the mother whale seemed interested in mating with either male. At any rate, she seemed determined not to give in and take their advances!
As we drifted in the ocean, watching whales move all around us, more boats began appearing and their passengers seemed equally excited that we had discovered whales so early. Our Guide remarked many times: “This has completely exceeded all my expectations!”
Our Guide gave us interesting facts about whales such as where they sleep, when they mate and what food they eat before all four whales disappeared into the depths.
After several minutes without whales, I asked the group to do the whale connect technique once more. Our Guide had difficulty keeping quiet at first; once he did so though, everything felt smooth and easy.
Soon after we finished connecting, the whales surfaced. I believe their collective whale brain felt energetically drawn to our call and came rushing toward our boat! Everyone was thrilled!
As soon as we realized the whales were drawn towards us, other boats began to slip away as our boat became the focal point for whale interactions.
While waiting, I came up with an idea. Instead of performing the whale connect technique normally, I asked everyone else in our group to perform it differently, hoping the whales might respond by showing their teeth more often or doing a full breach (something I had long wanted to witness!). And lo and behold – my wish came true!
As we waited to see what would unfold, things on the boat became still and heavy as our energy changed significantly. Around one minute later, our Guide yelled, “There they are!” as four whales surfaced near but opposite our boat; all four whales had passed directly under it!
How Smart Are Whales
Our group honed this technique throughout our time with four whales. When they would fade away, we’d reconnect and they would return; each time we utilized an alternative “breech” connection they even came swimming under our boat!
I believe the whales were showing some type of secret intelligence as well. Other boats were cheering and aggressive with loud Guides when whales would show themselves; when one would appear, these boats would drive towards it!
On our boat, things were quiet. We felt an immense connection between ourselves and whales; their intelligence knew we were full of love for them.
I believe this was why they interacted so wonderfully with us – they sensed our love for them, they felt secure in knowing we held them in our hearts as best we could (despite not yet mastering unconditional love).
These four whales brought us as close to unconditional love as we could get at that moment.
